Dynotech Racing motor plate

Hi guys. Here are images of the motorplate install. Fairly straightforward and lock step similar to the blue plate install with one exception.

Three short (black) tranny screws come out; three longer SS allens go in securing the plate to the tranny. Motor plate also has a nubbin that rests on the chassis plate for added support. One execetion to the install here compared to the blue plate is having to make two 1/2"L x 1/4" diam aluminum tube spacers to support the front of the tranny. On the black tub, the rear nitro engine mount provides the support. It has to go to facilitate the electric motor plate install.

After attaching the motor plate, the disc brake hex on the slipper needs dressing down to prevent rubbing on the inside of the hole for the upper trans shaft. No biggie. On the blue plate, the hex was nylon, here the hex is steel. The brass screw and nut allowed me to clamp the slipper into a vise to make filing easier.

And that is it. Have a roller now ready for electronics install.

Cheers. AC

looks nice and simple, pretty cool to see it as a mid motor layout too!

tub roller and workspace

Thanks, Bill. Anxious myself to see how a mid motor works on a tight grass track course. Of course, with mid motor comes the trade off of limited battery mounting options. 3S shorty will take some creative thought.

I'd be remiss if I did not draw attention to the peg board and tool mount in the background. It was the original used when first returning to the states back in 2000. Circumstances beyond my control are forcing a reduction in workshop space, so the old is new again. Fortunately, am no longer racing or building drag chassis, so can deal with the downsizing.

Cheers. AC

JConcepts is amping up the mid motor ST with its blog build. May try some of their upgrade parts once I sort out what I have. Interesting, bringing a 20+ year old chassis back into active competition. Goes to show a good solid design is always a winner.

For grins, have a RC10T3 back motor coming from an Ebay purchase. Be fun to run performance comparisons on the backyard grasstrack.

Keep the shiny side up. Cheers. AC

Done and on the Ready Shelf

Calling the Black Tub RC10GT conversion a done deal for now and placing it on the ready shelf. It will come to the ahr43 RC Grasstrack after mid-season break, 2019.

Challenge was the battery hold down. Stand up mount is what came about. Probably not workable for normal off-road, but thinking it will work for the grasstrack oval. Uprights at either end of the battery are GT throttle servo mounts and I was able to use existing holes in the chassis to locate them. Sometimes the racing gods work in your favor. 'Bout time. :-)

JConcepts Carver front tires and PL Hole Shot Rears not glued yet. Hope I remember to glue them when run time comes.

Driving on....Cheers. AC

Rain, rain go away

While waiting for the daily rains to stop, if they ever will, swapped out radio receivers on the blue plate RC10GT Conversion. New is a Spektrum SR210 for use in gathering signals from the DX4C DSMR. This provides for up-timers on both the ST trucks on the backyard grasstrack.

Black tub conversion hangs on the peg board until mid season break; then gets a full electronics system swap from the blue plate.

Black Tub tranny spacer

Hey all,

Went to fit up my new HW Xerun V10 17.5 yesterday and there was not enough space. Interference with the floor pan. Haven't tried fitting up a motor before, so not sure if this is specific to the next gen exo-skeleton AL motor cans, or if any 17.5 might have clearance issues. Anyway here is my fix.

Fabricated two spacers out of 0.090" ( 3/32 in) G10 fibreglass. One under the tranny, and one under the tranny brace. Also had to cut and fit two new longer 1/4" Aluminum tube spacers to support the nose of the tranny where the nitro engine mount arm used to be.

Looks good on the bench. Real test will be on track. So, next is fitting up the electronics in get-ready for June competition on the grass track oval.

Cheers. AC

Black Tub RTR

Weighing in right on my rules package 60oz minimum is the RC10GTe brushless conversion using a HW Pro 17.5 combo and GensAce 2s x 4200 LiPo.

Did a ten-lap untimed test session yesterday with usual adjustments: steering trim, steering speed and 80% power setting. Alas, in my haste, neglected to check the camber and toe since getting the nitro car off Ebay. Soooo, gotta do a do over. Fortunately, rules package makes a provision for two (2) 10-lap test sessions prior to the one allowed practice session.

Yikes! It's wiring black out inside the black tub! A bit tight getting everything to fit on this mid-motor conversion. Thinking after a season's running, may move things around a bit to gain some space.

At least she runs and tracks well enough to begin chassis tuning. Pro Line Hole Shot's may not be enough tire for the grass track surface. Getting some break away in the corners already that shows more a lack of traction than on-power oversteer. Have two sets of them too. But understand they wear fast. That may be a good thing...

Cheers. AC

Track Test Session

Ran a 10-lap session on the backyard grass track yesterday after dropping one tooth on the pinion and bumping the timing on the Ballistic motor +10deg. Significant "feel" of improvement with the two changes.

Unofficial timing of 2:17 did not reflect the improvements. Ran wide into thick grass entering Turn 1 multiple times and had to self-marshal once.

Thinking it will be a player in the next event, German ST GP, next weekend.

Cheers and Regards. AC

Racing 8 retires

A most successful conversion. Practically unbeatable. RC10GT to RC10GTe brushless conversion. HW 17.5T Pro motor and ESC. 2s x 4600 7.4v LiPo "shorty" power battery. JConcepts tires.

The '8 Truck' did it all. Back-to-back series champion trophy 2019 and 2020. Top Qualifier medal 2019 season. Fast Time medal 2021 season. Concours trophy winner 2021.

Six recognition stickers and back-to-back series champion makes it a double inductee into the UTRL Hall of Champions.

Rest easy in retirement, Racing 8. You done well.
